Our Values

Kindness, respect, responsibility, hard work, having fun, environmental stewardship.

~

These values are at the core of everything we do and guide us in creating a supportive and inclusive community.

Our History

In the fall of 2014, Blanco River Academy was organized and created by 6th-grade parents looking for a small, experiential-based middle school opportunity, that would allow students to continue to grow a love of learning and problem-solving.

Environmental Stewardship

Blanco River Academy believes schools have a special role and responsibility in confronting the challenges of climate change, sustainable living, and social injustice. BRAc is dedicated to addressing these issues both in and out of the classroom. Through hands-on projects, students actively engage in environmental conservation. From tending to our on-campus organic vegetable and pollinator garden and participating in Blue Hole Park work projects, to collecting water, soil, and air samples as part of a Citizen Scientist Program funded by a grant from the National Institute for Environmental Health Sciences, BRAc students develop a profound connection to the natural world and the responsibility to protect it. With a "Solutionary" focus, we engage our students in implementing innovative solutions that build a healthier, more sustainable school, community, and planet.  We also encourage students to understand the associated social injustice problems in our society today by engaging them in lively discussions, works projects, and academic readings.

BRAc students are well-rounded, critical thinkers, creative in their endeavors, and good stewards of their environment.  We teach acceptance of all individuals and the importance of caring for our earth.
